Our mission to end hunger, ‘One meal at a time’, is a reality now

Mission Tripti came into existence with the acknowledgement that when the fundamental need for food and sustenance is not met, people are left vulnerable and powerless. It is our duty, as Samarth Indians, to empower these people with the knowledge that someone is looking out for them. They are not alone and helpless. Just knowing this can motivate people to take a step towards real empowerment. A person sitting in a skilling class with an empty stomach, knowing that their family is starving, cannot learn and grow. True empowerment starts with these basics.

Our experience of the first field trip under Mission Tripti on 10th March 2024 proved to us that hunger exists right under our privileged noses, around the corner from our comfortable and luxurious houses.

The first site of food distribution was a slum cluster in Sector 3, Gurgaon where we were able to feed nutritious, full meals from toddlers to old people. In the beginning, they were so anxious that the food will get finished before their turn that they refused to line up but after talking to them, showing them our supplies and assuring them that each one of them will receive food, they stood in line with bright, hopeful smiles.

After this, we visited a slum site and a dump site in sector 112, Gurgaon where families of ragpickers live in horrid conditions. There were young children here living in abysmal conditions with happy spirits who were grateful to receive the food and had even finished their meals before we left the site. The signs of malnourishment, negligence and mistreatment on these children’s bodies were a great motivation for Samarth India Foundation to continue the initiative of Mission Tripti while making more efforts to support these communities.

One of our objectives for this mission was to provide these meals with dignity which was a success as all the people present were able to peacefully and joyfully share this time, giving and receiving the meal with respect and kindness.

Mission Tripti is just a beginning “To Create One Million more Samarth Indians”. Hunger is a stark reality among the most vulnerable sections of the society around us. Even those who are earning on daily basis need support to address this basic and foremost need which can help to uplift their lives and improve their overall standard of living. Improving access to education and healthcare, creating employment opportunities, and reducing inequality will be critical to achieving this goal but as the old saying goes “भूखे भजन न होय गोपाला”. A hungry man can’t focus on any work until his hunger is satisfied. Without food, even God has no significance.
